Search Engine Rankings – Content Is Still the Key to Search Engine Rankings

With all the hype surrounding backlinks, on page and off page ranking factors and nearly every webmaster focusing on seo one thing has been forgotten. Content is still the primary driver of search engine rankings. When a search engine robot comes to your website, it is trying to find out what your site’s content is about and the quality of that content. seo does help it do that, by making its job easier but to show up for highly competitive keywords in natural searches it is vital to have loads of high quality content.

How often do you do a search and get and result that has no content relevant to what you have searched? Virtually never, search engines are far too smart for that. No matter how many backlinks you build or meta tags you fill out or images you optimize, your content is the key to good search engine rankings.

How to write high quality content?

First of all you need to have a huge passion to what you are writing about. As much as some people love the idea of having a website or blog and the money they can make from it, they will fail unless they love what they write about. But just having a passion isn’t enough. It requires skill and effort to write great content.

Research is the primary driver of this skill. When I am writing an article it is important for me to do a search on Google AdWords Keyword Tool to see what searchers are looking for. I also do search for those keywords on Google and see what interesting angles other webmasters have employed that I haven’t thought of. This gives you the basic outline of what you are going to write. It also ensures you will have plenty to write about. As Wikipedia (the seventh highest traffic getting website in the world) have demonstrated, the more content the better the search engine rankings. So when you have a guide for what you are going to write you are more likely to write greater amounts of content than simply winging it with no research. This research will only take ten minutes but may result in twice the amount of content with half the effort.

Punctuation, spelling and grammar while these may all sound like a boring English class they are certainly a key part in your writing being well received by both users and in turn the search engines. Technology like spell check, online dictionaries make it easy to check you have good grammar while you are writing, but it is still important to scan back over a piece before using it just to check you have missed something, somewhere.

Write like you speak on the internet the rules of English are a little bit more lax. Make the most of this by writing with a bit of enthusiasm! Bolding words you would like to emphasize and using abbreviations and slag if it is required. It will bring a sense of fun and will help in building a relationship with users which is key to getting backlinks for great search engine rankings.

So remember to follow these three guidelines when writing your next article or web page and you will get happy users and better search engine rankings.
